JLR is looking for an Intermediate/Senior Planner to join our Ottawa Team. Planning is a part of this integrated team of dedicated and experienced professionals who share a common desire to work with our clients to create livable, sustainable and diverse communities. We engage in private sector approvals for land development, create and implement municipal policy, and work alongside our other departments on industrial buildings, schools, state-of-the-art hospitals, transit stations, highways, airports, toll systems, bike lanes, and parks. In short, we design every aspect of a truly integrated community for people to live, work and play.

The role will involve land use planning, design and development strategies, and research and policy reviews for both private and public clients.

Roles & ResponsibilitiesEstablishing, developing, and leading new initiatives and opportunities through client interactions; Conducting research and policy reviews; Assisting our private sector clients with the approval of subdivision, consent, site plan, zoning by-law, and official plan amendment applications; Directing the development of new Municipal, County, District and Regional planning strategies and plans; Leading stakeholder and public consultation, including the preparation of materials for public meetings, open houses and workshops; Identifying and responding to client needs and regulatory requirements; Travelling between JLR offices on occasion to meet the needs of various planning projects and/or for training purposes.
Skills and Qualifications7-10 years’ experience as a Registered Planner; Proven ability to establish and maintain effective client and business relationships; Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or a related discipline; RPP designation with the Ontario Provincial Planners Institute (OPPI), Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP); Knowledge of related Planning legislation comprising such Acts as Environment Assessment, Heritage, Conservation Authorities, Endangered Species, and Affordable Housing required; User functionality in MS Office products; Knowledge of GIS, CAD, Illustrator, SketchUp, or similar programs would be an asset; Ability to work in teams consisting of people with varying backgrounds; Proven ability to work with clients and others to achieve planning goals; Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; Excellent communication skills – analytic, oral, and written; Bilingualism (English/French) would be considered a strong asset; Highly motivated self-starter with a positive attitude; Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills; Valid “G” Class driver’s license.
