POSITION TITLE: Classroom Monitor
LOCATION/DEPT: Midwest Corps
REPORTS TO: Youth Development Coordinator (GSI)
FLSA CATEGORY: Non-Exempt
STATUS TYPE: Part-Time (1-19 hrs/wk)
The Classroom Monitor assists in the Afterschool Program that promotes the vision of the Midwest Corps and the mission of the Salvation Army. The Classroom Monitor works directly with the Youth Development Coordinator (GSI) in supervising the children of the afterschool program. This is a part-time positon requiring evening hours.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
+ Responsible for supervision of children in the afterschool program.
+ Provide support in afterschool program activities including academic support, elective classes and gym activities.
+ Give support, by your actions, to the program concepts of love, understanding and self-worth of each person.
+ Be accountable for the first aid and safety of afterschool children.
+ Serve as a model of the Christian life for afterschool children, parents and surrounding community.
+ Provide afterschool children with safe, fun and wholesome environment that is conducive to growth and a positive experience.
+ Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
+ Perform any other duties as may be assigned by Youth Development Coordinator (GSI) or designee.
+ Is expected to be on time and on task throughout the duration of the program.
+ Is expected not to store personal belongings including at the center.
+ Required to attend all staff meetings of the Afterschool Program.
+ Minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
+ Two years of college education is a plus, but not required.
+ One to two years of experience working with children is a plus, but not mandatory.
+ A background in childcare or working towards a degree in education is a plus.
+ Must be Safe-From-Harm certified within 30 days of hire.
+ Experience in the operation of a faith based organization is a plus.
+ A commitment to the mission of the Salvation Army and youth ministry.
+ Excellent organizational skills.
+ An enthusiastic and friendly approach to job duties with the ability to lead others positively.
+ Demonstrates sound judgement in a variety of situations.
+ Good written and oral communication skills.
+ Must be a team player, self-starter, and follow through with assignments until completion.
+ Ability to work with children of different skill levels.
+ A flexible style that also displays a willingness to learn.
+ A "hands-on" knowledge of how to effectively work with diversity in the work place.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
+ This position is required to do light to moderate physical work. Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs.
+ In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and a PC or for executing educational programs.
+ The work environment for this position includes high levels of noise and flexibility in a constant changing environment.
