Essential ResponsibilitiesResponsible for mechanical design and support of complex optomechanical and electromechanical products from concept through to production using modern CAD and analysis tools. Generation of drawings and bills of materials for assigned design. Able complete assignment of moderate scope and complexity, usually minor parts of larger projects. Uses a variety of standard engineering methods and defined best practices in solving problems and executing tasks. May assist more senior staff in carrying out technical tasks. May contribute to definition of departmental best practices of a clearly defined scope. Duties or tasks are assigned with defined timelines. Technical guidance is available as required. Results are reviewed on a regular basis. May give technical or project related guidance to more junior staff. Occasionally provides guidance to more junior staff on standard methods and procedures. Participate in design reviews as either a presenter or a reviewer. Supporting the verification and validation of new product designs. Keep in synchronization with mechanical industry trends and new technologies that may be relevant to L3 Wescam’s present and future product development. May involve the design of cabling wire harnesses including developing solutions with electrical engineers, physical routing definition, final drawing generation, and then verification of design in production.
QualificationsBachelor of Applied Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent 3+ years’ experience in a similar role You will be eligible to meet the Controlled Goods Program requirements and be able to hold a Canadian Security Clearance.
Preferred Additional SkillsWorking knowledge of a 3D CAD system, preferably SolidWorks May require working knowledge of cabling design and layout applications Some experience with analysis and mathematical tools Knowledge of drawing standards and mechanical design standard practice Knowledge of mechanical dynamics and vibration Knowledge of strength of materials and classical analysis methods Knowledge of machining, casting, sheet metal, and composites manufacturing techniques and processes Knowledge of rapid prototyping techniques and methods Knowledge of Materials Science Strong communication skills and the ability to prepare detailed technical reports and specifications A highly motivated, self-starter Ability to learn and grow within a fast paced environment
