Full Job Description
Shell Oil Company is seeking a sharp Energy Trading Analyst to
join our trading floor in Washington, D.C. This role supports energy
traders by providing market analysis, data management, and operational
support within the Energy sector.
As an Energy Trading Analyst at Shell , you will be responsible for monitoring energy markets, analyzing price trends, managing trading data, and assisting traders with trade entry and reconciliation. You will work closely with traders, risk managers, and back-office personnel. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a keen interest in energy markets and trading.

As an Energy Trading Analyst at Shell , you will be responsible for monitoring energy markets, analyzing price trends, managing trading data, and assisting traders with trade entry and reconciliation. You will work closely with traders, risk managers, and back-office personnel. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a keen interest in energy markets and trading.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor energy markets (e.g., oil, gas, power) and identify key trends and drivers.
- Collect, organize, and analyze market data from various sources.
- Support traders with trade execution, entry, and confirmation.
- Reconcile trades and resolve discrepancies with counterparties.
- Assist in managing trading positions and exposures.
- Prepare reports and presentations on market analysis and trading performance.
- Maintain trading databases and systems.
- Collaborate with risk management to monitor market risk and credit risk exposures.
- Work closely with the back office on settlement and clearing activities.
- Stay current with market regulations and compliance requirements.
- Develop and maintain models for analyzing market data or forecasting prices.
- Troubleshoot issues related to trading systems or data feeds.
- Provide operational support to the trading desk.
- Learn trading strategies and market dynamics from senior traders.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements in trading operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- 1-3 years of experience in a trading or analytical role, preferably in the energy or commodities sector.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Excel and financial modeling.
- Familiarity with trading concepts and financial instruments (e.g., futures, options).
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced trading environment.
- Interest in energy markets and global economics.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with trading platforms (e.g., Allegro, OpenLink).
- Experience with data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL).
- Understanding of energy logistics and infrastructure.
- Experience in the oil and gas trading market.
