Senior Lead Software Engineer, Distributed Systems (Go, Java, Kubernetes, AWS)

The Capital One machine learning platform organization manages our cloud-based enterprise ML+AI system providing users with development tools and runtime environments necessary to build and run machine learning and AI systems with large scale real-time and batch processing workloads. We are seeking a Senior Lead Software engineer, who is passionate about working on large scale distributed systems to help develop foundational capabilities for our platform.

You will use your experience to build large scale and highly available systems to develop our shared control plane and fleet management framework as well as distributed compute infrastructure. Your foundational contributions will support our diverse offerings ranging from developer notebooks to model training to model inference and feature generation pipelines to pre-training and fine tuning Transformer architecture based models as well as generative AI inference applications. Your depth of experience in technologies including Golang and Python programming languages, gRPC and REST web service frameworks, container (e.g., Kubernetes) and serverless (e.g., AWS Lambda) runtime environments, cloud databases and computer security will provide a multiplier effect to our organization.

What You’ll Do
  • Define control and data plane architecture blueprints and develop implementations that help us realize a highly available, large scale and a provably secure machine learning platform

  • Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and collaborate with a team of developers with deep experience in distributed microservices

  • Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, mentoring other members of the engineering community, and leading system design and code review sessions

  • Work cross-functionally with product and program management disciplines, to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that drive powerful experiences to help millions of Americans achieve financial empowerment

  • Utilize programming languages like Go, Python, and Java, open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, container orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of AWS tools and services to develop highly performant solutions

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience (Internship experience does not apply)

  • At least 1 year experience with cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree

  • 9+ years of experience in at least one of the following: Go, Java, or Python

  • 4+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service

  • 2+ years of experience working with Kubernetes

What you will do:

In this role you will select power conversion equipment (rectifiers, inverters, filters, etc.) and tune control loops (current, velocity, position, etc.) for integrated electromechanical solutions. The applications range from cooling subsystems (fans, pumps, flow control valves, etc.) to actuators for motion control of radar elements. You will also be responsible for creating and validating simulation models to evaluate system performance and troubleshoot real-system problems.

You will also be responsible for supporting and driving the execution of product development projects. You will be working with a Team/Technical Lead and under the guidance of an Integrated Product Team (IPT) Lead. Work is performed in a multidisciplinary team environment focused on execution and engineering excellence, using established business, and engineering tools and processes. You will interact with internal and external customers and leadership team members.

Qualifications you must have:

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major.
  • 5+ years of experience in power conversion and/or control system design
  • Experience with at least one of the following: traction systems, servo systems, fan / pump applications, or grid-tied bidirectional converters
  • Experience with high voltage systems at kW power levels

  • Develop and maintain required Detailed Planning artifacts and manage plan execution

  • Develop financial forecasts, record cost variance, anticipate and address delivery challenges, and request budget changes if needed following associated Change Request Process
  • Develop high-level milestones during Discovery  and develop detailed project schedules during Detailed Planning
  • Works with a high degree of autonomy to apply industry leading project and program management knowledge to refine the resource plan, develop a RACI Matrix, conduct a Key-Person Risk Assessment, and Third-Party Support Needs Assessment 
  • Ensure early identification, resolution, and escalation of project risks through maintenance of Risk and Issue Log and project Pre-Mortem activity
  • Drives continuous improvement and efficiencies beyond own scope of responsibility

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree  or equivalent experience and expertise
  • 8+ years of project management experience

We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented USRB Senior Project Portfolio Manager for the US Refreshment Beverages (USRB) Business Unit . You will work with the Engineering Project Management team and Site Champions to ensure that the BU’s projects are properly resourced and that they deliver on scope, schedule, and budget commitments.  

The ideal candidate will have an Engineering, Business , Project Management, or related degree .  This individual will also have project and portfolio management experience. Food and Beverage , CPG (Consumer Package Goods) and plant floor experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities  

  • Execute and improve USRB long-range and annual planning/prioritization process es
