Heidi’s Village is an innovative concept in animal welfare, providing low-cost boarding and veterinary services exclusively to community rescue organizations. Shifts available:

4x 10-hour shifts or 5x 8-hour shifts, 7 days/week
5:00am – 4:00pm, or 5:00am - 1:30pm (opening shifts)
8:00am – 7:00pm, or 10:30am - 7:00pm (closing shifts)


Position Available: Animal Care Technicians (ACTs) provide daily care and enrichment to Village residents while promoting the safety and health of all animals in our care.    

The position(s) involve:

  • Caring for a wide range of (primarily) canines with strict adherence to quality/safety standards
  • Handling and interacting with animals humanely and safely, using safety equipment as necessary
  • Adhering to the Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare and following Fear Free Principles
  • Following established disease control protocols to clean, disinfect, and sanitize kennels, equipment, walkways, and common areas over nearly 3 acres of property
  • Ensuring all animals are adequately exercised, housed, fed, provided with water and other basic necessities
  • Recognizing and accurately/timely communicating signs of illness or behavior changes
  • Creating and maintaining necessary animal records and data entry
  • Cultivating positive client, volunteer, and coworker relations through professional and courteous interactions
  • Promoting our vision, mission, services, programs, events, and adoptable animals
  • Assisting potential adopters with meet-n-greets, facilitating interactions to ensure a safe and pleasant experience
  • Communicating effectively with coworkers to ensure efficient production and deadlines are met
  • Participation in continuous process improvement
  • Keeping work area neat and clean and following all established safety guidelines
  • Performing additional and/or general duties, as assigned

A successful candidate must possess the following skillsets, attributes, or experience:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 6 months working/volunteering with domestic animals in an animal shelter, veterinary hospital, or another animal facility preferred. NOTE: Any applicable volunteer or work experience should be listed and include hours worked and job duties.
  • Flexibility to work all shifts, including opening shifts as early as 5am and closing shifts as late as 8pm, with availabiity for rotational weekends and holidays
  • Ability to work with and/or around others with frequent interruptions
  • High attention to detail and exceptional quality standards
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with a team and independently
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform work accurately, but with expediency
  • Dependability/reliability – early is on time, on time is late, and late is unacceptable!
  • Achievement-oriented and self-motivated

Summary of Job

We are looking for a motivated, friendly individual to be part of our team providing care as a Pet Care Specialist (‘PCS’). This is a great opportunity for an individual looking for a practice where they can get their foot in the door, help clients appreciate the value of pet healthcare, and enjoy a team-oriented environment.

The PCS provides care and the cleaning/sanitation of Noah’s Animal Hospitals including cleaning of cages, runs and ward areas, laundry, walking, and proper upkeep of all areas within the practice. They operate under the supervision of the Practice Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Assure all areas of the hospital is clean, without odor and is kept in good condition.
  • Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; empty and clean ash trays and cigarette urns; replace light bulbs; refill restroom dispensers.
  • Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Ensure that cages and animals are properly numbered and identified and the area is clean and a pleasant environment for our patients.
  • Clean, disinfect and maintain kennels, cages, and runs as often as is necessary to ensure no cages or kennels are soiled and odors are not apparent. Perform general cleaning in other areas of the hospital to control the spread of disease. Wash and sterilize water and food bowls.
  • Launder and dry towels and blankets.
  • Patrol hospital grounds daily, picking up any trash and stool material. Empty trash.
  • Attend to emergencies when necessary or requested.
  • Work well with all employees and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the doctors and the practice philosophy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Understands basic animal care and assures that pet area is clean and sanitary.
  • Maintains a pleasant, professional manner with clients, patients and fellow team members.
  • Ability to perform moderately heavy physical labor.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments. Understand and carry out oral and written direction.
  • Ability to clean and maintain kennels, cages, runs and stalls. Perform general cleaning in treatment, reception and surgery rooms to control the spread of disease. Wash and sterilize water and food bowls.
  • Ability to observe animal appearance and activity for general physical condition, obvious signs of illness, disease and discontent.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to handle cleaning solvents and agents in a safe and directed manner.
  • Regular attendance and timeliness are an essential function in order to fulfill the requirements of this position.
  • Strong communication and client service skills. Considerable tact and diplomacy is required. Ability to work with clients and patients in a professional, friendly, hospitable manner.
  • Work well with all employees and ensure that your actions support the hospital, the doctors, and the medicine that we practice.
  • Perform general physical activities that require bending, standing, stooping, moving from room to room, sit, talk, and listen; may be required to walk or stand for long periods of time; will use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; will reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently lift, carry dogs weighing 50 lbs. Walk and handle dogs weighing up to 150 lbs.

Special Working Conditions

  • Ability to be confident around pets (i.e., dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc.)
  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderately high.
  • Requires sufficient ambulatory skills in order to perform duties while at hospital.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Associate is routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards and medication/controlled substances.

We are looking to add a Lead Animal Care Attendant to our team at Pooch Palace!

REPORTS TO:  General Manager

PAY: $14.00/hour + tips

CORE RESPONSIBILITES (include but are not limited to):

  • Supports Mission, Vision and Values of Destination Pet.
  • Sanitizes/disinfects pet enclosures and general boarding areas.
  • Provides clean bedding and ensures pet guests have clean water at all times.
  • Makes sure that each pet receives the correct type and quantity of food for each meal and maintains cleanliness of food prep areas.
  • Monitors and accurately charts consumption and elimination of every pet guest; brings concerns to the General Manager or Assistant Manager.
  • Visually checks pet guests for safety and well-being throughout the day.
  • May be required to supervise group play for dogs and/or individual activities for pet guests.
  • May be required to assist with bathing and brushing of canine guests.
  • Checks and picks up excrement from enclosures and other areas as needed throughout the day.
  • Monitors pet belongings; cleans belongings as needed; assures the return of pet belongings to owners. Carries pet belongings to storage area, front desk or to assist customers, as needed.
  • Performs daily laundering of pet bedding and towels.
  • Assists General Manager in overseeing additional animal care staff in regard to scheduling, coaching, training, and complaints 
  • Supervises assigned shifts and works with Animal Care Attendants to maintain a clean, safe environment for our pet guests. 
  • Works alongside center management to train new hires in proper animal-handling techniques
