Job Description: Petroleum Engineer

Shell Oil Company is seeking a skilled Petroleum Engineer to join our technical team, with a base location near New York City, New York, supporting various projects. You will be involved in the exploration, development, and production of oil and gas reserves. This role requires expertise in reservoir engineering, production optimization, or drilling engineering, and a strong commitment to safety and environmental responsibility.

As a Petroleum Engineer at Shell, you will analyze geological and engineering data to evaluate potential reservoir performance, design efficient production strategies, or plan and oversee drilling operations. You will utilize advanced software and simulation tools to model reservoir behavior and optimize recovery. Collaboration with geoscientists, drilling teams, and production operations will be essential to your success. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse and challenging projects within a global energy company.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze reservoir characteristics and performance data.
  • Develop and implement reservoir simulation models.
  • Design production strategies to optimize hydrocarbon recovery.
  • Monitor and analyze production performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Plan and oversee drilling or completion operations (depending on specialization).
  • Evaluate and select appropriate technologies for exploration, development, and production.
  • Assess technical and economic feasibility of projects.
  • Collaborate with geoscientists, drilling engineers, and production teams.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations.
  • Ensure operations comply with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements.
  • Participate in field visits and operational support as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • 3+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably in reservoir engineering, production engineering, or drilling engineering.
  • Proficiency in reservoir simulation software (e.g., PETREL, ECLIPSE) or drilling/completion software.
  • Strong understanding of reservoir geomechanics, fluid properties, and production mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of drilling operations, well design, and completion techniques is a plus.
  • Experience with data analysis and interpretation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Commitment to safety and environmental performance.
  • Ability to travel to field locations occasionally.
