Full Job Description

Delta Air Lines is a major American airline with its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. We are looking for an experienced Cargo Operations Supervisor to oversee our busy cargo facility operations in New York City, New York. This role is crucial for ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely handling of cargo shipments, maintaining operational excellence and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise daily cargo handling operations, including loading, unloading, sorting, and transporting cargo.
  • Lead and direct a team of cargo handlers and warehouse staff, providing training, coaching, and performance management.
  • Ensure compliance with all Delta Air Lines policies, FAA regulations, TSA security requirements, and other applicable laws.
  • Monitor cargo flow and staffing levels to optimize efficiency and meet operational targets.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions to minimize delays and disruptions.
  • Coordinate with internal departments (e.g., flight operations, customer service) and external partners (e.g., freight forwarders, customs).
  • Ensure the proper use and maintenance of cargo handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, dollies, loaders).
  • Conduct regular safety briefings and enforce safety procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and discrepancies, preparing reports and implementing preventative measures.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and tracking of cargo shipments.
  • Utilize cargo management systems to track shipments and generate reports.
  • Ensure proper documentation is completed for all incoming and outgoing cargo.
  • Manage staffing schedules and approve timecards.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement efficiency initiatives.
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure cargo is handled according to standards.
  • Communicate effectively with the team and management regarding operational status and challenges.
  • Handle escalated customer inquiries or issues related to cargo shipments.
  • Ensure the security of the cargo facility and cargo shipments.
  • Prepare and submit operational reports as required.
  • Participate in training and development programs to enhance leadership and operational skills.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Aviation Management, or a related field is a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience in cargo operations, logistics, or warehouse management, preferably in the aviation industry.
  • 1+ year of experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Knowledge of air cargo handling procedures and regulations (e.g., FAA, TSA).
  • Experience operating or supervising the use of cargo handling equipment.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment (requiring standing, lifting, etc.).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in a 24/7 operation.
  • Proficiency in using cargo management systems and basic computer skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safety and security.
  • Ability to pass a background check and obtain necessary security clearances.
