Phillips 66 is seeking skilled and safety-focused Refinery Operators to join our team in the Los Angeles, CA area. As a Refinery Operator, you will be responsible for monitoring, controlling, and optimizing refining processes to produce various petroleum products. You will work shifts in a complex industrial environment, ensuring safe and efficient operations according to strict procedures.

Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and control process variables (temperature, pressure, flow rates) from a control room or field location using Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and other control interfaces.
  • Operate and adjust valves, pumps, compressors, furnaces, and other equipment to maintain process parameters.
  • Conduct regular field rounds to inspect equipment, detect leaks, identify potential hazards, and verify process conditions.
  • Collect samples of products and raw materials for laboratory analysis.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and respond to alarms and deviations from normal operating conditions.
  • Communicate effectively with other operators, supervisors, engineers, and maintenance personnel.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all safety procedures, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and emergency response drills.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate logs and reports of operating data and activities.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks and assist maintenance personnel with equipment isolation and preparation for work.
  • Respond to emergencies, such as fires, spills, or equipment failures, following established procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements.
  • Work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Understand process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Ensure proper lockout/tagout procedures are followed before maintenance work.
  • Monitor emission control systems.
  • Assist with startup and shutdown procedures for process units.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or practices immediately.
  • Train and mentor junior operators.
  • Operate mobile equipment (e.g., forklifts, trucks) if required.
  • Conduct basic laboratory tests in the field.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Work effectively as part of a team in a high-pressure environment.
  • Participate in incident investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with all permits and licenses.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or technical certification in Process Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience as a process operator in a refinery, chemical plant, power plant, or similar heavy industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of process operations, including distillation, cracking, and other refining processes.
  • Experience using Distributed Control Systems (DCS) or similar control systems.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures in a hazardous industrial environment (e.g., LOTO, confined space entry, hot work permits).
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and PFDs.
  • Excellent observation and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to climb stairs and ladders, walk distances, and lift moderate weight.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Basic computer skills.
