Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Network Engineer to join our IT and Software team in Jacksonville, Florida. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Verizon's network infrastructure. You will work on various network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points, ensuring network reliability, security, and performance. This position requires strong technical expertise in networking technologies, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, configure, and implement network infrastructure components (routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs).
  • Install, configure, and maintain network hardware and software.
  • Monitor network performance and identify issues, implementing solutions for optimization and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot network connectivity problems, performance bottlenecks, and security incidents.
  • Conduct network capacity planning and make recommendations for upgrades or expansions.
  • Implement and enforce network security policies and procedures.
  • Manage and maintain network documentation, including diagrams and configuration guides.
  • Respond to network alerts and participate in on-call rotation for after-hours support.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams, including systems administrators and cybersecurity analysts.
  • Plan and execute network upgrades, patches, and migrations.
  • Utilize network monitoring and management tools effectively.
  • Develop and test disaster recovery and business continuity plans related to network infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Automate network tasks using scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible) is a plus.
  • Evaluate and recommend new networking technologies and solutions.
  • Conduct network audits and vulnerability assessments.
  • Manage IP address space and DNS records.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior network staff.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest networking trends and technologies.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in network engineering or network administration.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, STP).
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting routers and switches (Cisco, Juniper, or similar).
  • Experience with firewalls and network security principles.
  • Experience with wireless networking technologies.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and management tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+) are highly desirable.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and participate in on-call rotation.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the telecommunications industry.
  • Experience with load balancers, SD-WAN, or cloud networking.
  • Experience with scripting for network automation.
  • Security clearance or ability to obtain one for specific projects.
