  • Identify opportunities for system modernization and implementation of smart grid technologies.
  • Collaborate with internal teams including Operations, Design, Construction, and Asset Management.
  • Prepare technical reports, studies, and presentations documenting planning recommendations.
  • Ensure planning activities comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.g., NESC, IEEE).
  • Utilize distribution system planning software (e.g., Synergi Electric, PSS/E, CYMDIST).
  • Assess the economic feasibility and cost-effectiveness of proposed projects.
  • Support the development of capital investment plans.
  • Review and approve interconnection requests for DERs.
  • Stay current with advancements in distribution technology, planning practices, and regulatory changes.
  • Provide technical support for regulatory filings and rate cases.
  • Participate in industry working groups and technical conferences.
  • Develop and maintain models of the distribution system.
  • Conduct sensitivity analysis for various planning scenarios.
  • Mentor junior engineers or technical staff.
  • Identify and manage planning-related risks.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems is required; Master's degree is a plus.
  • 3+ years of experience in electric utility distribution system planning or a related power systems engineering role.
  • Proven experience performing power flow and other system studies using relevant software.
  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution system components and operation.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., NESC, IEEE).
  • Experience with load forecasting methodologies is a plus.
  • Experience evaluating the impact of DERs on the grid is highly desirable.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in using distribution system planning software.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience with economic analysis of projects.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is a plus; Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
