Full Job Description

Comcast is hiring a Telecom Technician in Chicago, Illinois. This role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing telecommunications equipment and services for residential and business customers.

Responsibilities:
  • Install and configure telecommunications services, including cable TV, internet, and phone.
  • Connect wires and cables to equipment and facilities.
  • Test installed equipment to ensure proper functionality.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot service issues reported by customers.
  • Repair or replace faulty equipment and wiring.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on telecom infrastructure.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to explain services and resolve issues.
  • Document all work performed accurately and completely.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work vehicle and tools.
  • Manage inventory of parts and equipment in the vehicle.
  • Provide technical support to customers on site.
  • Work independently in various indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Follow technical manuals and diagrams.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards and quality requirements.
  • Respond to service calls in a timely manner.
  • Assist in training junior technicians.
  • Identify and report potential network issues.
  • Ensure proper grounding and bonding of equipment.
  • Use testing equipment (e.g., signal meters) to verify service quality.
  • Ensure compliance with company branding and customer service standards.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required. Technical certification or degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, or a related field preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience as a telecom technician or in a related field.
  • Experience installing and troubleshooting cable, internet, and phone services.
  • Understanding of telecommunications technology (coaxial cable, fiber optics, networking).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to 75 lbs).
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Experience with networking concepts (TCP/IP) is a plus.
  • Experience with home networking equipment (routers, modems).
  • Ability to work varying hours or be on-call.
  • Commitment to safety.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Experience using work order management systems.
