Job Summary:
Deere & Company is seeking a skilled Software Engineer specializing in IoT (Internet of Things) to join our technology team in San Diego, California. You will be involved in developing software for connected equipment, integrating sensor data, and building platforms that enable advanced analytics and features for John Deere products. This role requires experience with IoT technologies, embedded systems, cloud computing, and a passion for developing innovative solutions in the agricultural or heavy machinery domain.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and implement software for IoT devices and platforms.
  • Develop software for embedded systems and edge computing.
  • Integrate sensor data from equipment into cloud platforms.
  • Build APIs and data pipelines for processing and analyzing IoT data.
  • Develop backend services for IoT applications.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers, data scientists, and product teams.
  • Ensure the security and scalability of IoT solutions.
  • Implement data storage solutions for time-series and IoT data.
  • Develop and execute unit, integration, and system tests.
  • Participate in code reviews.
  • Troubleshoot issues in connected systems.
  • Utilize cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) for IoT data ingestion and processing.
  • Work with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Develop and maintain documentation for software systems.
  • Stay updated on emerging IoT technologies and standards.
  • Implement over-the-air updates for devices.
  • Monitor performance and reliability of IoT systems.
  • Contribute to technical architecture discussions.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations.
  • Develop dashboards and visualization tools for IoT data.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in software development, with experience in IoT systems.
  • Experience with embedded systems programming is a plus.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages relevant to IoT (e.g., C++, Python, Java, Go).
  • Experience with cloud-based IoT platforms (e.g., AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub, Google Cloud IoT).
  • Understanding of IoT protocols (e.g., MQTT, CoAP).
  • Experience with data processing pipelines and databases for IoT data.
  • Familiarity with hardware interfaces and sensor integration.
  • Understanding of networking concepts relevant to IoT.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration is beneficial.
  • Experience in the agriculture or heavy machinery industry is a plus.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues across hardware, software, and network.
