Summary
The UAS Flight Operations Specialist will apply their hard-earned field experience to develop, build, and test Z1 systems and mission payloads and recommend improvements. They will support and/or perform flight testing and write test plans, concise test reports, and/or test summaries as necessary. This position requires automobile travel (2+ hours each way) for any flight tests that include transition to fixed-wing flight. Some ground tests and hover tests can be performed locally.
The UAS Flight Operations Specialist will also be responsible for the overall state of health and readiness of the entire flight test system, including the Ground Control Systems, Ground Support Equipment and Air Vehicles. This requires a working understanding of all UAS major components. The UAS Flight Operations Specialist will own the creation and maintenance of logbooks and other maintenance and system configuration records.
The UAS Flight Operations Specialist is expected to bring a pragmatic, real-world perspective to the team and will be relied upon as a member of the engineering team throughout the development of the system. As a key member of a small team, and in order to develop in-depth knowledge of the Z-1 system, the UAS Flight Operations Specialist will also be involved in the assembly of Air Vehicles, Ground Control Systems and Ground Support Equipment. In this capacity, the UAS Flight Operations Specialist will be expected to provide “user perspective” feedback and improvement suggestions as a member of the design team. This may also include the creation and fine-tuning of build instruction documentation in cooperation with other groups. The UAS Flight Operations Specialist will also be a key contributor to subsystem bench testing, iron bird proof testing, diagnostic and debugging activities,
and root cause analysis efforts led by engineering.
As a Z1 systems expert, the UAS Flight Operations Specialist will play a key role in the development of a training curriculum and training materials for the Z1 Operators Certification Course – this will require the UAS Flight Operations Specialist to become intimately familiar will all areas of the Z1 system to include the Air Vehicle (operations and maintenance), Ground Control Station and associated software/user interfaces, and all Ground Support Equipment. Previous curriculum development, UAS Operator/Maintenance Instructor, military instructor certifications/qualifications, and Field Service Representative experience and/or relevant education preferred.
CONUS and occasional OCONUS travel will be required for demo flights, training, and field support.
Duties
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the UAS Flight Operations Specialist shall have/perform:
· Perform ground-based, hover, transition, and full fixed-wing flight tests of a Group 2 UAS
· Create and maintain test plans, reports, and summaries in support of a test development

· Collaborate with other internal stakeholders and Leads to ensure readiness of the Z1 UAS
· Support the development of sustainment-ready military UAS by providing product feedback to the

Experience:
· Minimum of 2 years military UAS operations experience
· Minimum of 2 years military UAS instructor experience
Skills and Competencies:
· Experience integrating payloads and radios such as Trillium, Persistent Systems, and Silvus
· Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills
· Ability to perform in a cross-functional team environment
· Good at keeping complex systems working well and performing preventative maintenance

· Experience with multiple GCS software including QGroundControl, Embention, Micropilot, Mission Planner
· Ability to spec and build new wire harnesses for payload integration
· DOD Secret clearance (or ability to obtain)
Physical Requirements:

What you will be doing:- Operate spacecraft in real-time and scheduled commands, monitor telemetry and subsystem performance, and ensure system safety and mission success through continuous situational awareness and anomaly detection.
- Conduct deep-dive analysis of spacecraft telemetry to identify trends, diagnose off-nominal behavior, and support root-cause investigations of anomalies across all subsystems.

- Expertise in Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), fault injection, and validation of fault management logic.
- 2–4 years of experience developing automation tools and data pipelines (telemetry analysis, command validation, system monitoring) using Python.
- Proficiency in scripting languages for process automation, data parsing, and mission operations support.
- Exposure to high volume data processing systems, telemetry decoding, or real-time monitoring frameworks.

Job Description
As a Flight Operations Specialist, you will perform maintenance operations on aircraft, aircraft equipment, engines, components, and systems in accordance with various directives supporting aircraft modification. Your role may include Airframe & Powerplant repairs and Fuel Cell work.
Responsibilities
- Remove, install, and rig flight controls.
- Conduct removal, installation, and functional checks as a CDI or CDQAR Inspector.
- Be Turn Qualified for both high and low operations.
- Handle hydraulic component removal and installation.
- Participate in depot disassembly and rebuilds.
- Operate ground support equipment.
- Perform routine and advanced maintenance operations on aircraft.
- Read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, and technical manuals.
- Use pneumatic tools, torque wrenches, and common hand tools.
- Remove and replace panels, floorboards, insulation, and sealing compounds.
- Familiarize and work with large aircraft, including airframe and power-plant components.
- Document maintenance and repair actions accurately.
- Order parts, tools, materials, and equipment as needed.
- Comply with all health and safety regulations.
- Perform duties on all shifts and under various weather conditions.
- Perform additional duties as directed by supervision and management.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in aircraft maintenance at depot level, repair, and overhaul.
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical documents.
- Skill in setting up and using pneumatic tools and torque wrenches.
- Experience with large aircraft and their components.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Airframe & Powerplant repair.
- Capability to document actions and communicate effectively.
- Flexibility to work all shifts and in various environmental conditions.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $5.00 - 40.00/hr.
