Position Summary:
The Surgical Scrub Technician plays a key role in the operating room by supporting the surgical team through the preparation, maintenance, and turnover of the sterile surgical field. This position requires advanced knowledge of surgical instrumentation, strict adherence to aseptic technique, and the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon during procedures. The Surgical Scrub Technician collaborates with the sterile processing team, surgical floor leads, and surgeons to ensure surgical efficiency and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities:Surgical Support & Sterile Field Maintenance
- Assist in preparing the operating room for surgical procedures by setting up instruments, equipment, and supplies according to the surgeon's preference.
- Ensure appropriate surgical packs, instruments, and equipment are pulled and placed in the OR or surgical cart prior to surgery.
- Perform sterile patient site preparation, including sterile scrub, draping, and positioning under supervision.
- Scrub in, perform sterile gowning and gloving, and maintain strict sterile technique throughout each procedure.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team by passing instruments, managing suction, and maintaining field sterility.
- Demonstrate an understanding of instrument use and be able to identify and respond to compromised sterility or equipment issues.
- Assist in the turnover and cleaning of the OR between cases to maintain efficiency and sterility.
Daily Operations & Collaboration
- Participate in daily surgical rounds with Surgical Floor Leads and Sterile Processing Lead to confirm schedule, discuss equipment needs, and communicate changes or delays.
- Collaborate with sterile processing to verify that all necessary surgical items are prepared and sterilized.
- Support with preoperative and post-operative radiographs as directed.
- Assist with pack preparation and instrument restocking when available.
- Contribute to end-of-day closing responsibilities and maintain OR cleanliness.
- Help train new team members in sterile technique and OR protocols.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in morning and end-of-day rounds.

- At least 6 months of animal care experience (1 year preferred)—can include professional, volunteer, farm, or personal business experience.
- Experience working with large groups of animals is a plus.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs , stand/walk for extended periods, and perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and restraining animals safely.
- Experience in animal handling, animal science, or animal research preferred.
Work Environment
- Support the Palatability Assessment Resource Center (PARC) in conducting taste trials with cats and dogs.
- Work alongside a dedicated team of 19+ care technicians and 4–5 veterinary techs .
- Exposure to varying weather conditions and typical animal care environments.
- Rotating two-week schedule , including weekends and holidays .
- Physical, hands-on role in a high-productivity, team-oriented facility .

The pay range for this position is $ - $/yr.
