Position Overview
The Process Engineering Manager will lead site-level activity including; deploying best practices, implementing problem-solving frameworks, and driving standardization across the plant through leadership and collaboration to achieve world-class performance.
The Process Engineering Manager works in close partnership with the General Manager, site peers in operations, quality and maintenance, as well as, the Senior Director of Corporate Engineering, Vice President of Technology and divisional Engineering peers.
Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Execution
- Direct and mentor engineering team
- Serve as the escalation point for systemic or high-impact technical issues.
- Lead technical execution of engineering deliverables that support factory performance, yield, cost, and cycle time.
Standardization & Best Practice Deployment
- Lead and enforce standardization of engineering practices and process control plans.
- Drive development and implementation of best-in-class practices including:
- Data driven, defined and documented process capabilities
- Best practice process standardization following well controlled change management
- Automation platforms to reduce/eliminate operator process influence
- Statistical process control systems and proactive solutions
- Scalable systems for uniform NPI handoff, minimizing variability and maximizing first-time yield.
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Deploy structured problem-solving methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, DMAIC, A3).
- Lead root cause analysis for critical defects and yield issues. Develop PFMEA’s for critical processes to prevent issues, democratize troubleshooting and resolution.
- Facilitate Kaizen events and continuous improvement projects to drive performance metrics.
Capital & Technology Implementation
- Oversee the engineering readiness and integration of capital equipment projects.
- Partner with corporate technical resources and site team members to evaluate, validate, and deploy new technologies.
- Develop robust change management and qualification plans for process introductions and upgrades.
Data & Performance Management
- Analyze process data to identify improvement opportunities and track ROI of investments.
- Drive labor efficiency through process variable reduction, elimination of non-value add process activity and capability improvements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with site leadership to align engineering priorities with plant-level goals.
- Work closely with Quality to ensure compliance with QMS, root cause analysis, and preventive actions.
- Coordinate with IT and Digital teams on MES, Industry 4.0 implementation and statistical process control tools.
- Collaborate with HR to assess, train, and grow technical talent in the facility. Assist to develop future leaders.
Qualifications
Education Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or related).
- 5+ years leading engineering teams within high-reliability, high-tech manufacturing.
- Demonstrated experience implementing standard processes leading to best in class performance.
- Strong background and proven results in proactive risk analysis, continuous improvement and implementing forward looking process / technology solutions.
- Proven track record in team leadership, troubleshooting, and lean transformation.
Education Preferred:
- Master’s degree or advanced technical certification.
- Printed circuit board or advanced electronics manufacturing expertise.
- Formal training or certification in Six Sigma, Lean, or equivalent methodologies.
- Deep experience with statistical process control and associated software tools.

Overview
The successful candidate must be competent in performing, leading, and directing all conventional aspects of Process Engineering and application of judgment for the evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard design criteria, methods, and procedures. Supervisory responsibility may include providing technical guidance and coordination for staff assigned to one or more projects, mentoring and developing staff, interviewing and recruiting potential new hires.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and oversee the process engineering activities with responsibility for quality and accuracy as well as performance budget and schedule
- Understand the project scope and deliverables
- Initiate timely project change notices when deviations are made from project scope that affect the cost of the work, deliverable and/or schedule
- Establish the process design criteria for the project

- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Paper Engineering
- 10+ years of experience in the pulp and paper industry
- Extensive knowledge of paper machine equipment, processes, and operations
- Experience in PFD and P&ID development, heat and material balances, and equipment specifications
- Proficient with MS office
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written
- Able to travel as required, typically up to 25%
- Must pass drug test, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company's driving (MVR) policy

Essential Job Functions
Paint Line Support
- Assist in monitoring, troubleshooting, and improving paint line operations, including conveyors, ovens, spray equipment, and chemical systems.
- Collect and analyze process data (temperature, cure times, coating thickness, flow rates, etc.) to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Support quality checks and ensure paint process parameters remain within specifications.
- Partner with engineers to test and validate process changes or equipment upgrades.
Facilities & Maintenance Support
- Assist with preventative and corrective maintenance activities for facility systems (compressed air, HVAC, water treatment, electrical distribution, etc.).

Position Summary
The Engineering Manager is responsible for planning and directing the activities of the Engineering group for the purpose of improvement of productivity, quality, capacity expansion, and for the production of new products and new materials through the development and application of new manufacturing technologies.
Team Overview and Job Responsibilities
- Lead continuous improvement activities to achieve the annual plan of proficiency projects
- Lead and enforce the culture of safety, health and environment in their work team and daily tasks
- Recruit, develop and guide resources to improve total performance and productivity
- Prepare and update annually the capital plan to support the business plan and manage capital project execution within budget and timeline
- Review and evaluate the key performance indicator (KPI) on an ongoing basis and identify area for improvements
- Provide direction of work plans, in addition to ensuring the development of generating multi-skills of operational personnel on equipment under their responsibility
- Develop and maintain process standards, procedures and specifications to ensure consistent product quality
- Direct supervision and development of the process engineering group made of 6 process engineers and 2 process technicians
Who are we looking for?
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering highly preferred OR at least 20 years of engineering leadership experience
- 7-10 years of Process or Manufacturing Engineering Manager experience
- Proven success in project management
- Technical training at various levels of the organization
- Excellent team and leadership skills - as team member, trainer, and developer
- Results driven individual who has demonstrated ability creating and working in a high performance manufacturing environment
- Good attention to detail and the ability to manage the bigger picture and have a "make it happen" mentality
- Effectively manage multiple, complex tasks and deal easily with pressure on a day in and day out basis
- Ability to motivate, communicate and drive continuous improvement through quality
- Critical thinker with excellent analytic abilities
- Good understanding of business principles and practices and ability to create financial solutions with a bottom-line result
- Solid planning, budgeting, and administrative skills
- High energy demonstrates urgency and fast pace
Desired Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Engineering or MBA
Work Environment / Physical Demands:
- 70% of time will be spent walking and standing on concrete production floor, along with use of stairs
- Also exposed to hot, humid conditions 70% of the time
