Join the power movement as a Process Engineering Manager
ARC will be the first machine to produce electricity from fusion energy, serving as the cornerstone to a new industry. ARC will strongly leverage the work that’s been done for SPARC in developing HTS magnets and other key tokamak systems. However, because of its mission to deliver power to the grid, the ARC tokamak has several systems not included on SPARC. The ARC group within R&D is a growing team that is delivering key scientific and engineering results to push the technical readiness level of these new enabling technologies higher.
The Blanket System team at CFS is looking to grow the team as we expand our operations into larger-scale, FLiBe-based test loops. These test loops will operate in a novel and extreme environment, with high temperatures, chemical hazards, and new materials. We are looking for a Salt Process Engineering Manager to lead a growing team specializing in the design of FLiBe systems. This person needs to be an experienced engineering manager who can balance resource needs across diverse projects and grow a center of excellence for salt process design.
The Blanket System team has a strong practice of carrying engineering risk where appropriate while attentively and aggressively managing safety risk, and we are looking for an engineer who will actively contribute to this culture.
- Develop team infrastructure to ensure common design process and process engineering methods across multiple projects
- Understand priorities across projects and prioritize resources between them to mitigate risk
- Develop best practices for process engineering with molten salts
- Review technical documents and calculations from process team members for accuracy and alignment with project goals
- Act as a link between salt process engineering team and other groups within CFS
- Serve as technical authority on process engineering both within CFS and in collaborations with external partners
- Support hazard identification and risk assessment (HIRA) activities (e.g. HAZOP, LOPA, What If?)
- Contribute individually as an expert process engineer as needed:
- o Develop and maintain specifications and interface requirements for the design, fabrication, and operation of salt systems

- o Perform design calculations (e.g. H&MB) and develop technical deliverables (e.g. PFD, P&ID, Process Design Basis, Control Philosophy, Operation & Maintenance Strategy)
- BS in Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum or Nuclear Engineering or a related field
- Graduate degree in the field preferred but not required
- 5+ years experience managing process engineering teams and projects
- 7+ years of experience in the engineering of integrated thermofluid and chemical processing systems, from conceptual design through operation
- Experience developing specifications for thermofluid components, (e.g. pumps, valves, tanks, etc)
- Experience with severe service working fluids (e.g. high temperature, hazardous fluids, etc)
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, technical staff and others
- Ability to clearly express and critique ideas
- Great communication and organizational skills (required)
- Strong problem solving skills, ability to approach new problems with creativity
- Working knowledge of PIP, ASME BPVC, ASME B31 and other relevant industry standards

Job Description
The Process Engineering Supervisor (PES) is accountable for people development, coaching, and supervision of Operations Support Engineers (OSEs) and Process Technology Engineers (PTEs) in the Refinery Process Engineering team. This position is one of three supervisor roles that provide leadership within the Process Engineering and Technical Safety team. The PES will also provide technical expertise for complex operating problems and leadership opportunities spanning multiple process unit areas. This position is viewed as a developmental management position with high visibility at the plant.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Ø Responsible for 7-8 process engineers providing support to various Production Areas.
Ø Provide mentoring and coaching to Operations Support Engineers (OSEs) in a manner appropriate with the experience level of the area process engineers.
Ø Partner with experienced Process Technology Engineers (PTEs) to resource and solve complex problems.
Ø Responsible for the development of graduate engineers as needed (technical training, career development, administration of competence development and documentation).
Ø Collaborate with peer discipline support supervisors (e.g., mechanical, process control, etc.) to deliver Production Team goals and objectives.
Ø Coordinate with Process Technology Engineers to provide technical assurance via the Management of Change (MOC) process.
Ø Provide technical assurance for environmental calculations and knowledge management documentation as needed.
Ø Assist in managing OSE/PTE work plans including resourcing and setting/re-setting priorities. This also includes the coordination of external consultant resources as needed (e.g., PHAs, complex troubleshooting, training, special tasks, startups, shutdowns, turnarounds, etc.).
Provide advanced technical support in assigned areas. Determine need and justification for use of external technologists.
Work closely with Production Unit Managers on OSE/PTE work priorities.
Can step up into the role of Process Engineering Manager when the Manager is not available or on vacation.
The Process Engineering Supervisor performs a key role in providing direct support to Operations while ensuring long-term objectives of the plant are consistently progressed and met. The role interfaces with Production Leadership, other Production Team discipline support (e.g. mechanical, process control, etc.), and Business Management to deliver safe, reliable, and profitable refinery performance.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
v Bachelor of Science degree required (preferred discipline Chemical Engineering). Background in Operations Support or other relevant process engineering experience.
v 10 years of experience supporting various refinery and/or chemical processes.
v Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
v Ability to vary coaching style according to the experience level of direct reports.
v A strong understanding of refinery and/or chemical processes and operations, including process safety risk.
