Job Overview

The Student Engagement Counselor sits within the Office of Equity and Inclusion at Georgetown Law and plays an essential role in supporting the holistic development of all students as they navigate academic demands, professional formation, and campus life. This student-facing position provides one-on-one support, guidance, and referrals to ensure students feel connected, informed, and empowered to engage fully with the Georgetown Law experience. The role also contributes to community-wide efforts that foster meaningful connections, professionalism, and a sense of belonging.

The Counselor is not an academic advisor but serves as a critical touchpoint for students seeking assistance navigating law school life, accessing resources, and building confidence in their ability to thrive.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide individualized support to students navigating campus life, interpersonal dynamics, academic transitions, and professional identity development
  • Serve as a trusted campus resource by maintaining open office hours and a consistent presence in the Office of Equity and Inclusion
  • Connect students with appropriate university services-including wellness, academic support, student life, and faculty advising-based on their needs
  • Participate in the design and facilitation of engagement programming such as community check-ins, informal discussions, and reflection sessions
  • Collaborate with student organizations and campus partners to strengthen communication, coordination, and leadership development
  • Contribute to office communications, including PowerPoint presentations, internal planning documents, and student-facing materials
  • Represent the Office of Equity and Inclusion at events and planning meetings, offering insight into student experience and community-building strategies
Work Interactions

This position reports directly to the Chief Diversity Officer. The Student Engagement Counselor works collaboratively with departments including the Office of the Dean of Students, Academic Affairs, Student Life, Campus Ministry, and University Wellness resources.

The Counselor contributes to Georgetown Law's mission to form lawyers who are not only skilled professionals but also ethical leaders committed to service, intellectual inquiry, and the common good. Through active listening, connection, and cross-campus collaboration, this position helps create a supportive environment where all students can succeed.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Master's degree in counseling, education, student affairs, social work, or a closely related field OR at least 5 years of progressive professional experience in advising, coaching, mentoring, or counseling in a fast-paced professional or academic setting
  • Demonstrated ability to offer compassionate, clear, and professional one-on-one support
  • Excellent judgment, diplomacy, and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential matters
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust across a wide range of students and colleagues
  • High level of comfort with technology, including proficiency in office software, presentation tools (e.g., PowerPoint or Google Slides), and virtual collaboration platforms (e.g., Zoom, Google Workspace, or Microsoft Teams)
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, while maintaining professionalism and sound judgment under pressure

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
