Job Description
Under general supervision, the radiology technologist operates standard, portable, and specialized X ray equipment to perform radiographic examinations used for diagnosis and treatment. Provides appropriate patient care, develops film and instructs radiology students as needed.
Education:
Work requires completion of an AMA approved program for Radiologic Technology or equivalent which is required in a two year college or technical school program.
Work Experience:
Preferred 3-6 months diagnostic radiology experience.
Licensure/Certification:
ARRT certified with current registration required. Radiography license by the Maryland Board of Physicians required. CPR certification required with three months of employment.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Requires skill in performing radiologic examinations, both routine and semi complex. Knowledge is also required of various x-ray equipment and computers.
- Some analytical skill required for determining technical factors such as voltage, current and exposure times; checking equipment to ensure proper functioning; and analyzing equipment manuals for correct equipment operating procedures.
- Basic interpersonal and communication to instruct skills to instruct patients about procedures being performed. Additionally must be able to assist in the instruction of rotating radiology students and assist less experienced Radiologic Technologist in performing more complex procedures.
- Manual dexterity required for adjusting machine controls and other supportive devices. Required to lift and position patients and equipment approximately 60% of time.

Primary Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
- To perform all diagnostic x-rays and assist with patient care and treatment.

- Triage Emergent patients.

- Education / Certificates: Limited Scope X-ray (LSRT) certificate - or- American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) certificate
- One year experience post-graduation working as a licensed X-Ray Technologist preferred
- Basic medical assisting experience preferred
- Basic understanding of digital x-ray services
- Understanding of the concepts of universal precautions, HIPAA and OSHA
- Strong clinical skills and work ethic
- Understanding of HIPAA, OSHA, and universal precaution concepts
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Location: Olympia, WA
FTE/Schedule: Expected status of .80 FTE, 32 hours worked per week. Schedule and FTE status may be open to discussion. Weekend availability may be required.

X-Ray Technician Job Duties:
- Prepares patients for radiologic procedures. Protects patient, self, and other staff from radiation hazards. Takes X-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety, which involves setting up and operating radiographic equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients and includes implementing infection control procedures for the work area. Selects proper ionizing factors for radiological diagnosis. Adjusts/sets radiographic controls. Positions patients and takes X-rays of specific parts of the patient’s body as requested by physicians. Checks X-rays for clarity of image, retaking when needed.
- Maintains required records including patient records, daily log books, and monthly reports. Performs quantity and quality control checks to assure X-ray unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and departmental policies. Complies with safety standards.
- Cleans, maintains, and makes minor adjustments to radiographic equipment, including determining equipment repairs.
- Maintains radiographic supplies and orders as necessary.
- Requests outside images for upcoming appointments. Ensures images are available for surgery at outside facility, if necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
X-Ray Technician Job Requirements:
- X-Ray Technician (XT) certification with the State of WA, or the ability to obtain one.
- Minimum 1 year experience as an X-Ray Technician.
- Experience in an orthopedic medical practice environment strongly preferred.
