Union Pacific is seeking skilled and reliable Locomotive Engineers to join our team operating trains in and around Columbus, Ohio. As a Locomotive Engineer, you will be responsible for safely operating freight trains, adhering to strict schedules, and ensuring compliance with all railroad operating rules and federal regulations. You will perform pre-trip inspections, monitor train systems, and communicate with dispatchers and other crew members. This position requires technical aptitude, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work independently for extended periods, often in variable weather conditions. You will be at the controls of powerful locomotives, moving essential goods across the country.

Key Responsibilities:
- Operate locomotive engines safely and efficiently according to rules and schedules.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of locomotives and trains.
- Monitor train systems and identify and report any malfunctions.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, conductors, and other railroad personnel.
- Adhere strictly to all railroad operating rules, signals, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations.
- Manage train speed, braking, and handling in varying conditions.
- Respond to emergency situations and follow established protocols.
- Complete all required documentation accurately.
- Maintain a clean and orderly cab environment.
- Must meet Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) requirements for Locomotive Engineers.
- Previous experience as a Locomotive Engineer or Conductor is required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and interpret railroad operating rules, timetables, and signals.
- Strong understanding of locomotive systems and their operation.
- Excellent decision-making skills, especially under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Ability to work independently and for extended periods.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, often on short notice.
- Must pass required physical and drug/alcohol tests.
