About the Opportunity:
Brown University's School of Professional Studies (SPS) brings a Brown education to new audiences of learners: those focused on the development of skills and a breadth of knowledge necessary for professional success and leadership. We leverage Brown's intellectual centers of excellence, rigorous teaching, and developmental approach to learning in a range of programs, including serving students outside of traditional degree programs. We partner with Brown departments, centers, institutes, and schools to develop degree and non-degree programs, and to support the recruitment, retention, and placement success of master's students, including traditional, non-traditional, and professional students.
Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director of Systems and Data Reporting analyzes and reports on data for 35+ master's degree programs, as well as for a portfolio of non-degree courses and certificates managed by the School of Professional Studies (SPS). This individual designs, produces, validates, distributes, and updates both quantitative and qualitative reports, queries, and data visualizations to support data-informed decision making in all facets of SPS's processes, including the recruitment funnel (program prospects, inquiries, applicants, admission decisions, matriculants, and defers). The Assistant Director provides timely and interpretive reports for the Director of Enrollment Management, Director of Executive Education, SPS's Senior Leadership Team, and others to inform recruitment, communication, selection, and enrollment strategies and policies.
The Assistant Director will work with the Associate Director of Masters Admissions Systems and others to identify data needs and develop tools in relevant systems (Technolutions Slate, Tableau, IBM Cognos Analytics) to address those needs.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Four or more years of experience administering daily systems operations, preferably in college admission environment
- Four or more years of experience running queries and validating data
- Four or more years of experience building workspaces and workflows in a CRM or relational database
- Four or more years of experience working with integrated student database systems
- Demonstrated understanding of complex table joins and database query language
- Experience creating data connections between Tableau Server and various data sources
- Demonstrated proficiency developing dashboards that are intuitive, impactful, user friendly, multi-faceted, and visually appealing
- Experience with manipulating data from a relational database
- Ability to craft logic formulas and calculations to display data in a clear way
Preferred
- Previous experience in higher education
- Degree in business/data analytics, computer science, management information systems or technically related field
- Experience with Ellucian Banner and Technolutions Slate, or other student information and customer relationship management systems
- Experience developing and providing training to a professional and potentially non-technical audience

The Data and Reporting Analyst oversees and participates in all aspects of the reporting development cycle including requirements, design, testing and implementation of reports as well as enhancement and maintenance of existing projects. This role also collaborates with IT Report Analysts/Developers and Data Analysts/Developers on recommendations related to data warehouse tables/fields and performance enhancement. Understanding of a wide range of business processes across the College and good working relationships with all areas of the College is essential.
Job Description
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Develop, maintain, and update procedures and associated resources for assigned systems.
- Complete data collection and initial analysis of College statistical information for strategic planning, performance monitoring reports, division and program scorecards, grant reports, and national/institutional reporting.
- Source information from Workday, FVTC's data warehouse, WTCS data systems, labor market software, and other data repositories. Share data reports and related documents to FVTC collaboration sites (i.e., Teams and SharePoint).
- Produce accurate, consistent, and timely reporting by extracting information from multiple systems, manipulating data, and developing user friendly final outputs.
- Assist in the data gathering and production of summary resources for College surveys.
- Collaborate with administration and faculty to provide data resources that support meaningful, actionable, information for effective interventions toward college, program, and student success.
- Provide research consultation to design and deploy data collection systems for grants and other research projects in collaboration with other College departments. Serve as FVTC's administrator for licensed survey software.
- Ensure compliance with FERPA and other federal and State required data policies/best practices.
- Provide technical and reporting oversight to the WTCS client reporting process, using multiple technology systems to gather data, clean and correct reporting, and ensure accurate and timely submittal of data to correctly reflect accurate representation of student populations and data alignment for outcomes based funding.
- Serve as Workday Reporting Analyst for College Effectiveness to develop and edit reports in Workday for state, federal, and college planning data and reports.
- Act as District liaison with WTCS IR and external research consultants.
- Coordinate specific research or evaluation projects.
- Involvement with College Effectiveness team projects such as environmental scanning.
- Act as back-up for other College Effectiveness staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
- Associate Degree in CIS required (Bachelor's Degree in MIS preferred), AND,
- Minimum of three years of related CIS and/or MIS experience required.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:
- Strong experience with Microsoft Office Products, including SharePoint. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel required.
- Working knowledge of Windows operating systems, system design and development, and Workday or equivalent required.
- Knowledge or experience in extracting business information and creating reports required.
- Experience in Data Modeling preferred.
- Experience with prism software preferred.
