Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field with a strong foundation in electrical theory and applications and a focus on power generation.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems design, power distribution methodologies, and control systems is essential. Familiarity with power generation technologies.
  • 5+ years of Power Generation and Distribution equipment, electrical component and controls design, and troubleshooting experience.  Medium and low voltage applications.
  • Proficiency in advanced electrical design and CAD software with experience using simulation tools for system analysis and performance assessment.
  • Experience in mobile power generation and distribution design solutions and testing is highly desirable.

Requirements

  • One line and three-line schematic design documentation experience.
  • PLC based controls design and SCADA programming experience.
  • DC Power system design (PV and/or battery storage), troubleshooting, and testing.
  • 4-20ma current loop component and control system design and troubleshooting experience.
  • Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU, CAN bus, RS485 communications protocol design and troubleshooting.
  • Panel load calculations and schedule development.  Arc flash assessment and risk calculation experience.
  • Experience defining electrical/controls requirements as part of system specifications.
  • Experience supporting field and customers to troubleshoot technical issues using a sound root cause analysis and problem-solving approach.
  • Experience supporting Manufacturing to resolve issues and work with Electrical Associates to develop standard assembly methods and evolve troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

· Sell stationary and mobile generators, microgrid controls, battery energy storage systems, automatic transfer switches, switchgear, and required ancillary equipment and concurrent services

· Prospect new leads and new business relationships with key end-users, key electrical engineers, and electrical contractors for the purpose of developing and maintaining relationships that lead to growing and profitable equipment, start-up, and service contract sales

· Develop leads for the sale of preventive maintenance services on Generac, Eaton and 3rd party power equipment: generators, ATS and switchgear

· Read plans and specifications to properly configure and price generator systems

· Prepare and present pricing proposals and perform all necessary follow-up activities

· Prepare submittal and drawing packages in support of proposed equipment and services

· Work with customer service, project management, and service teams to coordinate all necessary post-order sales administrative tasks: order entry, credit, scheduling, start-up, commissioning, billing/invoicing, and turn-over

· Use manufacturer educational seminar programs, customer-factory fly-ins, webinars, conferences/tradeshows, and other resources to improve Generac brand awareness and create affinity for the products among potential buyers

· Participate in industry groups and associations that potential customers attend to assist in relationship development, discover new opportunities, and be an expert in the field

· Develop business relationships with key supplier personnel to ensure products meet customers' needs, are efficiently built, and delivered as required by customers

· Assist the service group as needed to troubleshoot product and service-related issues by being the bridge between customers and manufacturers

· Participate in weekly team meetings with strong emphasis on proactive communication, informing the team of any important developments with vendors or customers

· Create monthly and quarterly business objectives, annual sales, and marketing plans

· Report out status and achievement on weekly, monthly and annual basis

Requirements:

Skills/Knowledge

Power Generation operates and maintains PG&E's hydroelectric, fossil, solar generation and battery storage facilities, providing approximately 5,300 megawatts of generating capacity for our customers. Our nearly 1,000 coworkers are dedicated to delivering safe, reliable and cost-effective generation to California in an environmentally responsible manner. Our hydro facilities include 62 conventional hydro powerhouses, a pumped-storage facility, 98 reservoirs, 168 dams and more than 200 miles of canals and flumes, among other water conveyances. Natural gas-fired plants in operation are Humboldt Bay Generating Station in Eureka; Colusa Generating Station in Colusa County and Gateway Generating Station in Antioch. Several utility-scale solar generation plants also are operated and maintained, as well as PG&E’s successful entry into battery energy storage, our Elkhorn Battery facility at Moss Landing in Monterey County.

Position Summary

This is an ESC represented exempt classification currently subject to collective bargaining.

This is a senior-level project engineer job that supports Power Generation’s dam safety and asset management programs to ensure public and employee safety, maintain hydroelectric infrastructure, manage risk, and meet regulatory requirements. The job requires mastery of the Journey Project Engineer job duties and is responsible for leading, consulting, and implementing engineering solutions for the department’s most complex, highest risk, and highest profile projects and programs. As a designated subject matter expert (SME), the Senior Project Engineer is widely recognized as a technical resource and practice leader within the department, as well as by external partners, regulators, and stakeholders.

The position requires application of expert judgment, a thorough understanding of regulatory guidelines and expectations for dam safety engineering, and an extensive knowledge of the power generation industry. The position also requires extensive project and contract management skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills; and ability to independently resolve complex problems with only general direction. The Senior Project Engineer provides leadership, coaching, technical direction, knowledge transfer, and assistance to technical employees and teams. Responsibilities may include Privileged and Confidential work.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $153,828

Bay Area Maximum: $197,628

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs functions of Associate and Journey level Project Engineers, but for more complex, larger budget, and higher profile projects. Job duties will vary by assignment. Job duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Assists teams of engineers, consultants, contract technical personnel, and support staff in collecting and evaluating data, conducting assessments and technical studies, performing engineering analyses, preparing reports, and developing recommendations to support the safe and reliable performance of PG&E's hydroelectric infrastructure, including dams, water conveyance, and appurtenant facilities.
    • Provides guidance, direction, and technical support for surveillance and monitoring, condition assessment, planning, engineering analysis and design, code and regulatory compliance, asset management, project construction, quality assurance, operation, maintenance, and repair of dams, canals, tunnels, flumes, penstocks, and other civil hydroelectric infrastructure.
    • Leads and applies extensive knowledge in the planning, design, permitting, and project management efforts for multiple complex and/or large generation projects that can be discipline specific, multi-discipline, or programmatic in nature.
    • Provides leadership, coaching, technical direction, oversight, and quality control for assigned projects and technical work done in discipline, knowledge transfer, and assistance to many technical and/or project management employees and teams; may act as an engineering and/or project management mentor.
    • May oversee the work of other engineers.

This is a journey-level Mechanical Project Engineer job that requires mastery of the Associate level Project Engineer skills and duties and provides complete engineering & design, project management, and technical support to O&M staff for a wide range of moderately complex issues and multiple medium to large capital and expense improvements to power generation and infrastructure facilities. This is a senior-level project engineer job that supports Power Generation’s dam safety and asset management programs to ensure public and employee safety, maintain hydroelectric infrastructure, manage risk, and meet regulatory requirements.   • Works with supervisors and others to represent PG&E to internal and external organizations as required
  • Identifies gaps between current business practices and stated objectives and provides recommendations for process improvements to address gaps.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A 4-year BS Degree in Engineering from an accredited curriculum in the US or the equivalent from outside the US is required.
  • Must obtain a California PE license within 18 months of hiring. Failure to obtain the California PE license within the 18 months will result in demotion to the Associate level. Once the CA PE license is obtained, the employee will be eligible to promote through the normal promotional process.
  • Mastery of the Associate level Project Engineer job duties and demonstrated leadership, knowledge, and ability to perform the job duties of the Journey level Project Engineer. Meets specific technical requirements gained through a minimum of three years of cumulative experience in project engineering, design, and construction.

Desired Qualifications:

  • BS Degree in Civil Engineering is preferred
  • Management Certification strongly desired
  • Demonstrates knowledge and abilities required for the Associate level Project Engineer and also:
  • Able to manage and complete several projects concurrently, depending on scope and complexity.
  • Able to stamp and/or certify engineering drawings and documents.
  • Has demonstrated a broad and in-depth knowledge of engineering and project management concepts, principals, practices, and design requirements for generation assets; ability to develop moderately complex design changes, project scopes, and project implementation plans; and provide more in-depth investigation & analysis support to O&M.
  • Has a working knowledge of power generation industry including understanding of design, construction, and/or operation of rotating machines, and experience interpreting applicable codes, standards, regulations, and practices.
  • Demonstrate informed judgment when making decisions and recommendations and use of technical & business judgment in applying engineering and project management principles and techniques to determine cost effective and practical solutions.
  • Able to function as a journey level project manager on projects with moderate scope and/or support more experienced project managers on larger or more complex projects.
  • Track record of building consensus around moderately complex and controversial project issues and successfully persuading others to act on agreements reached; able to build upon foundation of technical and business knowledge to shape the opinions of others.
  • Able to provide clear and effective technical direction and guidance to less experienced engineers, project managers, drafters, and analysts, and to provide training to these and other groups as needed.
  • Able to independently provide technical and/or project oversight and direction to consultants, suppliers, and construction firms to meet moderately complex project needs; understands contracting principals and options; able to effectively manage moderately complex contracts and to negotiate and resolve contract disputes favorably.
  • Track record of taking ownership of problems and their solutions.
  • Able to identify gaps between current business practices and stated objectives and provide recommendations for process improvements to address gaps.
  • Track record of working with senior engineers and project managers to further his or her own professional development.
  • Proactively evolves engineering and project management skills and knowledge through industry associations & conferences, technical workshops, trade publications, and additional formal education.
