Purpose:
Responsible for the multiple monitoring and communications functions for the Public Safety and Facilities/Maintenance departments. Handles the facility work order system and related functions. Receives work order requests, issues work orders, monitors systems and alarms, receives telephone and radio calls and dispatches staff to routine and emergency situations.
Responsibilities:

Provide clerical duties for Operations Center-related activities including preparing purchase orders, manual typing, word processing, filing and telephone answering as required.
-
Under the direction of appropriate managers and supervisors schedules the work of outside service companies, i.e., elevators, utility companies, city water authority, etc. Prepare service outage announcements as required and distributes to all affected parties.
-
Responsible for monitoring and administration of the access control system. Enter and manipulate data and programs employee access cards as appropriate.
-
Ensure patient safety by monitoring and initiating responses to building alarm systems including the pneumatic tube system, Johnson Control automated temperature control system, access control, security and panic alarms, Simplex fire alarm system and other alarms.

Monitor all CCTV locations and rotate VCR tapes as indicated. Report malfunctioning cameras, obscured views, etc. Notice activity on the monitors and dispatch appropriate Facilities/HSS personnel to respond to a location.

Receive calls for service and dispatches appropriate personnel to respond. Calls or alarms may originate by telephone call, personal request, radio or automated system or Operations Center dispatchers may observe activity on the CCTV monitors which requires intervention.

Maintain written logs for all calls and operations center activities as needed including calls received and dispatched, safe transactions, VCR tape, fire system, etc.

Operate facilities' work order system including receiving and opening ON DEMAND work orders, preventive maintenance work orders, work order closing and work order reporting.

Compile, copy and distribute maintenance and construction announcements to designated department representatives and outside contractors.

High school diploma or equivalent required and 2 years of experience in Public Safety, Security, EMS, Maintenance, Utility Services or 2 years in a role using two-way radio, multi-line telephone, or computer aided dispatch systems OR

High School Diploma or equivalent required and is a current UPMC employee with 3 years of tenure OR

Associate's Degree in related area required

Previous dispatching experience preferred.

Role Overview: The Public Safety Dispatcher performs multiple functions in the Communications Center in support of various department personnel at the University Park Campus, Health Sciences Campus, and University Parking Center. Receives calls for service from faculty, staff, students and guests, and dispatches the appropriate department personnel via radio communications equipment. Serves as a vital link between the service community, Public Safety personnel, and all other emergency and nonemergency services available at the university and in the surrounding community. The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, listening skills and the ability to make instantaneous decisions based on minimal information. In addition, skilled in controlling emotions and ability to work under pressure. Step into a role where your duties will include but are not limited to:
Receives emergency calls requesting police, fire, and rescue assistance.
Determines appropriate response in accordance with established procedures and assessment of the situation. Dispatches Public Safety units in response to calls for service.
Maintains a record of all calls and radio messages. Monitors status of public safety, parking transportation, campus cruiser, residential protection, assets protection, and other special duty units. Prepares appropriate management reports of calls.
Receives calls and complaints regarding service and assistance and refers them to the appropriate unit. Operates telephone switching equipment.
Requests back-up or follow-up assistance from the Los Angeles Police Department, Los Angeles Fire Department, and other agencies.
Operates Computer Aided Dispatch system and maintains manual and automated records systems. Conducts information searches as needed.

Working as a Public Safety Dispatcher for the Juneau Police Department is a personally rewarding and challenging career that has a significant positive impact on the community.
New dispatchers receive about 7 months of on-the-job training to learn call processing, computer systems, and radio procedures. Dispatchers provide service to the public and to responders over the phone and radio as part of a big team of people who serve the community. We work together through good times and during crises, emergencies, and difficult events. Most days are fun and challenging. Some are stressful and can be emotionally draining. Between your coworkers' support, structured training and Wellness program, you will develop coping skills that will help you be able to bounce from the tough calls.
On any given day, dispatchers may start with a parking complaint, then give someone CPR instructions, help solve an argument between a caller and their partner, conduct research and data entry, provide general information about city services, and sometimes help to deliver babies over the phone.
JPD's Wellness Program:

This is a full-time union represented position typically working a combination of 8-hour and 12-hour shifts for 40+ hours per week. Overtime is paid, and extra leave is granted when working holidays. Work assignments and personal leave are bid and scheduled based on seniority.
The Communications Center is located at the Juneau police station on Alaway Avenue in the Lemon Creek area and has plenty of free, convenient parking available in a secure parking lot.
Typical Responsibilities
You will be answering phones, 9-1-1 lines, managing radio channels, providing customer service, solving problems, sharing information with the public, and tracking all of this activity in a computer-aided dispatch system. Duties quickly fluctuate between performing data entry, talking to callers during their times of need, and making critically important decisions in support of the community, Juneau Police Department, and Capital City Fire/Rescue responders. Summary
Under basic supervision, the Public Safety Dispatcher performs a variety of clerical, administrative, and technical work in receiving and dispatching routine and emergency information. Purpose:
Responsible for the multiple monitoring and communications functions for the Public Safety and Facilities/Maintenance departments. Handles the facility work order system and related functions. Receives work order requests, issues work orders, monitors systems and alarms, receives telephone and radio calls and dispatches staff to routine and emergency situations.
Responsibilities:

Provide clerical duties for Operations Center-related activities including preparing purchase orders, manual typing, word processing, filing and telephone answering as required.

Under the direction of appropriate managers and supervisors schedules the work of outside service companies, i.e., elevators, utility companies, city water authority, etc. Prepare service outage announcements as required and distributes to all affected parties.

Responsible for monitoring and administration of the access control system. Enter and manipulate data and programs employee access cards as appropriate.

Ensure patient safety by monitoring and initiating responses to building alarm systems including the pneumatic tube system, Johnson Control automated temperature control system, access control, security and panic alarms, Simplex fire alarm system and other alarms.

Monitor all CCTV locations and rotate VCR tapes as indicated. Report malfunctioning cameras, obscured views, etc. Notice activity on the monitors and dispatch appropriate Facilities/HSS personnel to respond to a location.

Receive calls for service and dispatches appropriate personnel to respond. Calls or alarms may originate by telephone call, personal request, radio or automated system or Operations Center dispatchers may observe activity on the CCTV monitors which requires intervention.

Maintain written logs for all calls and operations center activities as needed including calls received and dispatched, safe transactions, VCR tape, fire system, etc.

Operate facilities' work order system including receiving and opening ON DEMAND work orders, preventive maintenance work orders, work order closing and work order reporting.

Description
This position serves as Law Enforcement Dispatcher for the Sweet Home Police Department. Operates communications equipment to receive and process incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance. Questions callers to determine the nature and urgency of requests for service. Following established guidelines, the telecommunicator will prioritize, initiate, coordinate and monitor police or other agency personnel response. Provides pre-arrival instructions to callers and relays current, pertinent information to units in the field. It requires a considerable degree of initiative and independent judgment within procedural boundaries and the ability to exhibit exemplary customer service skills in all situations. Enters and retrieves data from computer programs, maintains records, data bases and prepares reports.
Dispatchers must have the ability to work effectively in both a team environment as well as independently and be flexible to accommodate for changes in call volume, multi-tasking, field activity and changing work activities. This position requires rotating shift assignments and is subject to mandatory overtime in accordance with maintaining a fully operational 24 hour facility.
