The Opportunity–Director, Enterprise Architecture
The Director, Enterprise Architecture is a key position reporting directly to the SVP & Chief Information Officer.
The main responsibility of the Director, Enterprise Architecture is to direct HMH’s Enterprise Architecture strategy to spearhead the digital transformation initiative. This position will be charged with establishing enterprise architecture capability.
In addition to the technical aspects required, it will involve cultivating and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of parties including internal stakeholders, 3rd-party vendors, external clients, and operational areas within HMH.

Duties & Responsibilities:
People Manager

This Enterprise Architect role will focus on the Infrastructure Domain , supporting integrations, expanding existing roadmaps, and optimizing areas like Oracle licensing. While high-level roadmaps are in place, this role will identify gaps and drive enhancements around infrastructure modernization, Google Cloud adoption, and ERP readiness (e.g., SAP). A strong background in Enterprise Reference Architecture , especially in Infrastructure and Integration , is essential. Experience in regulated environments or the energy trading industry is a plus.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assess current infrastructure systems and identify opportunities to modernize or expand capabilities aligned with enterprise strategy.
- Evaluate Oracle licensing landscape and recommend optimizations to reduce cost and improve scalability.
- Collaborate with Integration and Data Architects to ensure infrastructure supports scalable, secure, and performant system integrations.
- Serve as subject matter expert on cloud strategy and implementation, especially Google Cloud.
- Identify and address gaps within infrastructure roadmaps; proactively propose enhancements to improve resiliency, agility, and cost-effectiveness.
- Support planning for SAP ERP implementation readiness by evaluating infrastructure dependencies and integration models.
- Maintain and evolve infrastructure-related reference architectures and capability maps.
- Participate in architectural review boards and innovation forums to ensure new technologies are evaluated and aligned to enterprise standards.
- Promote infrastructure-related best practices across architecture and engineering teams, driving standardization and reuse of architectural patterns.
- Collaborate with other domain architects (Data, Business, UI) to ensure end-to-end alignment across enterprise systems.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE (Highlighted for this focus area)
- 12+ years in IT, with at least 7 years in enterprise or infrastructure architecture.
- Proven success driving large-scale infrastructure initiatives within a cloud and hybrid environment.
- Hands-on experience with Oracle ecosystems and licensing models.
- Familiarity with Google Cloud, and exposure to SAP ERP architecture preferred.
- Strong grasp of enterprise integration patterns and reference architecture frameworks (TOGAF certification required).
- Prior experience in the energy trading or utilities industry highly preferred.
