SWING DRIVER POSITION SUMMARY :
Safely operate front-end load, roll-off, container delivery and/or rear-load and automated side-load commercial vehicles and ancillary equipment on an assigned route to service customers in a safe and efficient manner. Deliver collected solid waste/cardboard to disposal site.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
- Previous experience with Front-End Load, Roll-Off, Rear-Load, Automated Side-Load (ASL)
- Education, Training, Experience and Licensing/Certification Requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) desired
- Possess valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- MUST HAVE prior waste industry driving experience
- Two (2) years of satisfactory driving experience of Class A or B vehicles preferred
- Satisfactory MVR (Motor Vehicle Driving Record)
- Must pass a DOT physical, drug screen and criminal background check

- Operate front-end load, roll-off truck, container delivery truck and/or rear-load and automated side-load commercial vehicles and ancillary equipment to collect solid waste on a specified collection route
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and reports, daily truck report, route sheets and other documentation as requested by management or regulation
- Communicate vehicle mechanical problems to maintenance supervisor immediately
- Maintain route quality standards as predetermined by management
- Operate truck and equipment using prescribed techniques to eliminate driver-induced mechanical failures
- Follow all safety standards, equipment checks and precautions in performance of all duties
- Comply with all federal, state, local and company rules on safety and vehicle operation including any required customer specific rules or regulations
- Communicate any potential hazards in serving/picking up container to Supervisor/Lead prior to performing task
- Maintain clean vehicle by cleaning cab interior and exterior of vehicle
Exposed to unpleasant sights and smells. The unavoidable, externally imposed conditions under which the work must be performed, and which create hardship including the frequency and duration of occurrence of physical demands, environmental conditions, demands on one's senses and mental demands.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
- Ability to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, and smell
- Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus due to the constant maneuvering of vehicle in tight and high traffic areas.
- Ability to regularly lift/move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds. Occasionally move/push up to 300 pounds.
- Ability to enter and exit truck to open doors to corrals multiple times during a shift
- Ability to climb to top of truck to verify that the load is secure prior to transporting the load to the landfill
- Sitting 75% of the time due to the primary function of driving.
- Ability to work in usually loud conditions.

The City of Virginia Beach is looking to hire several Waste Management Operator II (G.19, $41,249.70-$4,006.79). Duties include:
- Work primarily as the driver/operator on a two or three-person crew, operating the rear loader waste collection vehicle, and may also undertake other duties as assigned.
- Ride standing on tailgate or rear loader collection vehicle, climbing off and on and/or climbing in and out repetitively during work shift.
- Perform daily inspection of equipment to detect present or potential maintenance problems.
- Perform preventative maintenance as per manufacturer's operations manual and Automotive Services policies.
- Must be able to perform heavy manual labor at a rapid pace.
- Lift heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds on a repetitive basis during work shift.

CDL Hiring Bonus:
Newly hired employees with a valid Class A or B CDL will be eligible for a 4,000 hiring bonus paid in three increments during the first year of employment:
- 1,000 with first paycheck
- 1,000 first pay period following six-month interim evaluation (with "meets expectation" performance rating)
- 2,000 at conclusion of probationary period (with "meets expectation performance rating)
Non probationary employees with a Class A or Class B commercial driver's license will be eligible for a 4,000 stipend (paid over 26 pay periods).

JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE OF POSITION
CHBWV is seeking a qualified candidate responsible for assisting in the implementation of the waste management program and requirements as imposed by the DOE and other federal, state, or local regulatory agencies. The successful candidate will support the waste generator services (WGS) including waste shipping, record keeping and waste characterization in accordance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education/Experience:
- BA/BS in Engineering, Natural Sciences, or related environmental science
- Four (4) years of experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Mixed Waste Shipper certification (can be obtained after hire)
- Proficient with EWITS and RadMan (Can be trained after hire)
- Proficient with DOT, RCRA, and NRC regulations
- Other Requirements:
- Must possess a broad knowledge of environmental theories, principles, techniques, policies, regulations, and legal requirements to successfully complete difficult assignments.
- Must be able to work under general supervision exercising reasonable judgment in determining objectives of assignments according to established procedures. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

- Revise shipping and LAG procedures as needed
- Assume the management of High-Level Waste program and canister/cask storage pad.
- Remain current on specific requirements imposed by government agencies by reading statutes, regulations, licenses, and permits.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the scientific and technical aspects of various regulatory requirements and how they may impact programs and facility modifications by studying regulatory guidance documents and industry publications and by interfacing with personnel at other DOE facilities.
- Assist in the maintenance of records and documentation by conforming to established department and Company policies and procedures for records management; support data retention capability initiatives to meet required needs.
- Regular attendance is required.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Provide (WGS) field oversight backup as needed for first and second shift MPPB demolition.

The Route Manager directs the activities of drivers and loaders in order to provide safe, effective and courteous waste collection service to customers.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
This list of Route Manager duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.
- Manage one or multiple departments.
- Manage supervisor(s) to ensure safety and compliance in your respective department.
- Manage drivers and loaders through scheduling their routes, implementing corrective action and managing other related issues.
- Resolve missed pick-ups and/or schedule additional pick-ups.
- Respond to customer inquiries, special requests and/or complaints. May also interact with city, state, or municipal government employees.
- Perform route audits to ensure safe and efficient procedures are followed and to identify possible training needs. Complete employee route observations and discuss results with drivers and loaders.
- Develop work schedules to match staffing levels, make work assignments and monitor progress to improve work process efficiency. May also plan routes to provide the most efficient service to customers while managing labor hours and disposal tons.
- Respond to driver reports of problem pick-ups such as unsafe conditions or potential hazardous material.
- Coordinate with Accounts Receivable, Customer Service and Sales departments to address concerns and/or changes in customer service. Coordinate with the Maintenance department to address concerns and/or changes to vehicle repairs.
- Responsible for the timely communication, correction and follow up of customer service-related issues.
- Approve time sheets and completed route sheets for pay calculations. Maintain and review logs for DOT hours worked and other required records.
- Maintain adherence to Company policy regarding operations and safety issues.
- May assist in investigation of accidents, injuries, or property damage claims.
- May be required to drive and/or ride the back of route vehicles to cover shortages in staff or missed pick-ups.
- Manage, direct and or implement coaching guidelines/specifics for personnel at your site.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, customers and vendors
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of DOT, OSHA and other regulations related to commercial driving and waste collection
- Mechanical Knowledge
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :
Education : High School Diploma, GED and/or equivalent work experience
Years of Experience : Minimum two years of related Waste, distribution or transportation industry experience desired but not essential. Experience as a commercial driver, customer service representative or dispatch clerk is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, experience and certification may be considered.
Certifications : OSHA training certificate is a plus. Must meet all regulatory requirements to qualify to operate equipment supervised.
